Category configuration allows you to control which bits of extra information (such as date, author, etc.) are displayed on posts in a category, both when viewed by itself, and when viewed with other posts in the same category.
To configure a category, go to Posts -> Categories. Look in the right column for the category you want to edit, then click its name (or the edit link below it that appears when you hover over the name). On the edit category page, scroll down until you see “Category Configuration Options”. The default settings are shown below.
Single post display
The category configuration options in the left column of Figure 1 control which bits of information are displayed when the post is viewed by itself. Below is a screenshot of how a post would appear with the default configuration, which only shows the next/previous post navigation.
Here is the same post with all of the single post display category configuration options turned on:
1. Social media/sharing links
Allows you to post the article to facebook, twitter, or other common social media platforms, or email it to a friend.
2. Date & author
Displays the publish date of the post, as well as the author’s name, which links to all of the articles written by the same author on this site.
3. Featured image
Displays a 150 x 150 px image that is set with the post editor’s featured image tool.
4. Related taxonomies
Creates a link to view other posts in the same category or categories, and (if applicable) other posts with the same tags.
5. Author bio
Includes a blurb about the author, which can be set by the author under Users -> Your Profile. Scroll down until you see the “About Yourself” section, and fill out the “Biographical Info” box.
6. Previous & next post navigation
Links to the next and previous posts in the same category. By default posts are ordered in reverse chronological order, but this can be changed in the category configuration options for multiple post display below.
Multiple post display
The category configuration options in the right column of Figure 1 control which bits of information are displayed when multiple posts are viewed at the same time, as a category. Below is a screenshot of how a category of posts would appear with the default settings – with just featured images turned on.
Here are the same posts with all of the multiple post display category configuration options turned on:
1. Date & author
Displays the publish date of the post, as well as the author’s name, which links to all of the articles written by the same author on this site.
2. Featured image
Displays a 150 x 150 px image that is set with the post editor’s featured image tool.
3. Related taxonomies
Creates a link to view other posts in the same category or categories, and (if applicable) other posts with the same tags.
4. Comment link
Before you check off any options related to comments, make sure to read about comments & spam
Order
You can control the display order of the posts when they are viewed as a category- you can choose date, title, or ID (order of creation). By default posts are listed in reverse chronological order. If you wanted to list posts alphabetically by title, you would select order posts by: title, order direction: ascending.
